Augusta Community Sailing is excited to announce recent progress we have made. The Augusta Sailing Club formed Community Sailing, a 501(c)(3) corporation, to assist with the promotion of sailing in Augusta by facilitating partnerships with other groups and individuals who share in the love of sailing.

Last month, because of its 501(c) status, Community Sailing was gifted six 420s, 4 Sunfish, 8 Optis and a 15 foot Zodiac with outboard. The cost to us was only the transportation costs to pick up the boats. Thanks to Kim and Dan Bagnoni, and Joe McMullen, for taking the time to drive to Savannah and bring back these boats. Second, Community Sailing is finalizing an agreement with Spirit of America, a charitable foundation, who for the last 30 years has worked to teach middle school kids water safety and introduce them to water activities, including canoeing, kayaking, power boat safety and sailing. They provide training, a curriculum, support  and equipment. This is a great program and will provide, among other items, 3 Hunter 15s and 3 nine foot RIBS, at no cost to Community Sailing.

Finally, also because of its 501(c)(3) status, Community Sailing has been able to sign up with the Amazon Smile program. Through this program Amazon contributes .5% of any purchases you make to ACS (once you sign up for the program). There is no cost to you. Once you enroll in the program and make a purchase the contribution will be made automatically. Following is Amazon's explanation of how you can sign up. There is a link just for Community Sailing and there is an explanation of how you can sign up through their site (in case you are wary of clicking on a link). The following is their instructions :
"When customers sign up for AmazonSmile, they’re asked to select one of over a million charities to support. When customers click on your unique link, they skip this charity selection process. Instead, they're taken to smile.amazon.com and are automatically asked if they want to support Augusta Community Sailing. Your unique charity link: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/86-3092248 "

If you have any questions about the boats, Spirit of America, the Amazon Smile program or if you would like to make a charitable contribution to help us as we begin this new endeavor, please feel free to contact me. We do currently have some start up costs that we are having to cover so any contributions would be appreciated.

Look forward to seeing you at the lake,

Tony Coy
Augusta Community Sailing President
