2020 Spring Series

“LET’S GET BACK TO RACING”

COVID-19 STATEMENT

Covid-19:  US Sailing, SAYRA, and ASC recommend single-handed sailing or family sailing during this pandemic.  The safety and health of each member is the responsibility of the individual member.  Any members using club boats shall clean and sanitize the boat prior to and after each use.

The safety of our members and staff are the driving force for the modifications to this annual event. Our other option was to simply cancel the event. This annual event is a great way to get back together as a club and enjoy being on the water.  We will monitor the situation daily and make appropriate changes as needed. Look to the website for any changes. Please note there will be no onsite registrations. Our scoring committee will be safely working remotely from home. Competitors will not need to check-in for this event, so please make sure that you register online with your correct sail number.

The organizing authority is the Augusta Sailing Club at Strom Thurmond Lake at Clarks Hill.

Rules: Racing is governed by the rules defined by US Sailing: The Racing Rules of Sailing, individual class rules, ASC PHRF rules and Sailing Instructions (SI Available on-line) and as modified by the Notice of Race.

Classes: Racing is open to PHRF boats with current Augusta Sailing Club PHRF Certificate and any dinghy with a current Portsmouth handicap rating. E-Scows, Open Skiffs, Optis, and RS Teras will each sail as their own fleet.  PHRF fleets will be spinnaker and non-spinnaker.

Scoring: Scoring of each race will be based on corrected times. Corrected times will be calculated using the “Time-on-Time” method. Portsmouth ratings will be used for dinghies and the PHRF system for PHRF boats.  E-Scows and Open Skiffs shall be scored as one design fleets. Any fleet with 3 or more one-design boats will also be scored as one-design.  For the Series, each day will be scored as a one-day mini-regatta, with the series scores being based on the combination of the one-day scores, as described in the Sailing Instructions. For the Regatta, scores will be based on the scores in all races, with no race omitted.

Fees: Entry fee for the series is $25 per boat (PHRF or Dinghy). Registration for any single race day is $5 per boat.

Registration: Registration will be online only. There will be no on-site registration.  Registration and payment are completed on-line. Boats must register before 6:00 PM on Friday before the first day for the series. Boats not registered will not be scored.

Schedule: Race schedule is as follows:  5/16/2020, 5/23/2020, 6/6/2020, 6/20/2020, 7/4/2020, and 7/18/2020.

A competitors meeting will be held virtually on Friday May 15, 6:30 pm on the Zoom platform.  A recorded version will be available Saturday, May 16. The starting sequence will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 16 and subsequent scheduled days at 12:00 noon.

Courses: Courses for PHRF, E-Scow, and Portsmouth fleets will start at the end of F dock. Government marks shall be used.  PHRF race will start first. Optis, RS Teras, and Open Skiffs will have a beach start and course set on East beach pavilion. The remaining fleet will start at the end of F dock with course to be determined. Courses will be determined based on the speed and direction of the wind.  Change to Time Limits:  A PHRF boat sailing a “distance course” finishing more than 90 minutes after the first boat of that fleet finishes or 3.5 hours, whichever is earlier, will be scored “DNF.”

Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers for each fleet having three or more boats.
