Junior Sail Camp

May -July, 2008

Started & Ended Big

This has been the largest Sail Camp we have had under my direction. We were 80% full one month before the camp even opened.  Just over 120 happy campers signed up and enjoyed the unusual heavy winds this summer.  And despite repeated thunder storm warnings issued by the weather stations, we only had one.  It was a dusie and caught us half way home from the " swimming hole".  All's well that ends well though and some of the skippers really enjoyed the challenge of sailing the white caps and 20 plus knots.  These youngsters really showed their metal and it made me feel really proud to see the look of " I did it" on their faces.  We have had an unusual amount of wind all summer which has made instruction some what difficult for the beginners but all in all I think we did gain some enthusiastic sailors and most are anxious to come back for more next year.  I had a great crew again this year with Kim Hines, Mason Hines and Nate Damen.  I couldn't have made it without their expert help and of course, Jim Paschal continues to always be there when we need him.  A big "Thank You Jim" from all the crew.  We all look forward to working with the young people again next year.
