Augusta Sailing Club Youth ChampionshipOctober 14, 2008The Augusta Sailing Club hosted its Junior Sailing Championship on Saturday, October 4, 2008. Fifteen-year-old Teddy Smyth of Augusta took first place in the annual event and was awarded "The Spinnaker's Cup." The regatta was comprised of six races, all on Sunfish. Eight local youth sailors were invited to participate. Teddy Smyth is a sophomore at the Davidson School of Fine Arts. He has been sailing for eight years, including three years as a competitive sailor in the JY15 series throughout the southeast region. Rebecca Forry, age 10, of Evans took 2nd place in the event. Hannah Farmer, age 10, of Augusta, took 3rd place. Other youth sailing competitors were: Mary Byrd, age 14, of Martinez, Phillip Driscoll, age 15, of Evans, Coe Magruder, age 13, of Evans, Scott Oswald, age 14, of Martinez, and Kathleen Quebedeaux, age 13, of Martinez. The race committee included three junior race committee members: Jack Bailey of Martinez, Elizabeth Hundt of Martinez and Jimmy St. Louis of Evans.
Youth Sailing Program Director Jim Holder and Assistant Director Kim Hines managed the event. |
