Pete Marriott, Randy Beauchamp, and Lauren Beauchamp posted an impressive 2-2-2-1-2 series to win the 2005 Augusta Lightning Invitational Regatta on Lake Strom Thurmond.  Four different skippers won races over the two-day event.  Team Marriott was most consistent after the bullets.

It was a beautiful weekend in Augusta.  Winds stayed steady the entire time we were there in the 8-14 knot range.  PRO Jeff Annis and crew did an incredible job running five races.

In race 1, Bob Harkrider took the ace.  We knew it was going to be a weekend to remember when Lenny capsized running downwind.  The master got his boat up in no time and salvaged a five.  In race 2, Team Krawcheck recovered with a bullet of their own.  In the meantime, Team Pelosi and Team Marriott were sailing very consistent with a pair of treys and deuces respectively.

Race three was Team Catawba's.  After starting last via a 720 for fouling Pete on the starting line, Ron, John, and Tom started playing catch up.  By the second windward leg they had climbed to the top five.  Team Pelosi was leading and then suddenly, John, Pat, and Harold were swimming.  The Catawba boys played the shifts a little cleaner and when the fleet rounded the second windward mark - they were in first, and fought off Pete and Lenny for the leeward finish victory.  At the end of the day, Pete was in first, Lenny and Bob were tied for second and Ron was in fourth.

After a great cookout and lots of fellowship, we turned in for the night.  The camping conditions were perfect and many tents dotted the ASC grounds.

On Sunday, we awoke to building winds.

There were two "fleets" on Sunday.  Fleet one consisted of Lenny and Pete who put horizon jobs on us in both races.  They split a pair of aces and the regatta went to Pete.   Bob led the rest of for a pair of threes and third place.

It was great to see Dave Pyle back from Russia racing again.  SELD newcomer Dennis Baker and family sailed their second regatta of the year at Augusta and handled the breezes very well.  Pam Barron and Nick showed their metal in the heavy winds too - finishing all five races for a solid sixth place.  Ellie Stone  drove all the way from Wrightsville to crew for Bill Sloger.  Richard Mayne sailed a great regatta in 14127.  Congrats to all participants.
